Tutorial Guidelines: General Information and Expectations

General Information

• Length: 45-minute on campus or Teams tutorials 
• No more than 1 individual appointment can be booked at any one time (regardless of the tutor being seen).
• A maximum of 1 individual appointment is permissible in any working week.
• Group bookings are considered as separate from individual bookings and should be arranged via the email address academicskills@hud.ac.uk. 
• For Online (Teams) tutorials, when you accept the booking, the link to the session will be provided via the online booking system in both your University of Huddersfield email calendar and Teams calendar at the time of booking.

Expectations - Attendance and cancellations

• Arrive promptly for booked appointments. If you arrive late, it will not be possible to extend appointment times as this will impact on the time available for other students.
• To cancel, please do so through the booking system at least 12 hours in advance where possible. This is so that other students have an opportunity to book.
• Non-attendance and short-notice cancellations (less than 24 hours before the appointment) without notification will be monitored.
• If you need to reschedule, please do so at least 12 hours in advance where possible. If the same tutor is not available, please use the option to reschedule rather than booking with another tutor without cancelling your original appointment. 

You can expect that: 

• If an appointment has to be cancelled or changed due to unforeseen circumstances, you will be contacted promptly by the member of the Academic Skills Team you booked with. A suitable alternative appointment will then offered as close to the cancelled one as possible.

 

Immediately prior to and during the tutorial: 

Please come to the tutorial prepared by: 

• Forwarding us an electronic draft of any assignments you wish to discuss the day before the tutorial.  
• For campus appointments: Bring copies of these documents on paper or open in electronic form (on laptops or tablets rather than phones) before you come into the tutorial/meeting. 
• Campus appointments: Please wait in the waiting area in front of CS1/10b prior to the tutorial rather than knocking on the door if you are early, as tutors may have online tutorials or other work to finish. 
• Online appointments: Where possible, please try to attend the tutorial in a quiet place so that we can hear you. You should avoid attending tutorials on mobile phones unless this is unavoidable. 
• Please do not record tutorial sessions without first asking your tutor. If you record a tutorial, you should not share your recording with anyone else or online, and you must delete the recording once you finished using it. See the University's Data Protection page for further information.
