Welcome to Campus Support

The University Campus Support Team ensure the highest standards of service in providing professional, clean, safe, and accessible buildings and space for the university community. The role is a critical link between the service, schools and departments in ensuring a response to day-to-day facilities issues. 

 

The Campus Support team provide services including portering services, venue set ups, classroom set ups, waste collections, recycling, VIP driving, car parking, security, external cleaning, winter maintenance and grounds maintenance as part of their role. 

 

The Campus Support team are key in university events such as Open Day, Applicant Visit Days, Graduation, and other key events in the University calendar in providing support to the services delivering these events whether that is providing a set-up, security provision, VIP driving or manning the car parks.  The role the team play is critical in delivering what we do at the University. 

 

The provision of car parking and waste management are also managed within this team where we provide an innovative approach to the management of waste and the provision of safe and well managed car parks. 

The Campus Support Officers provide a flexible and varied service and are on campus during the following hours:-

Monday-Friday          06:00-21:50 

Saturday                    08:00-13:00 

Sunday                      08:00-12:00 

The team are well known for being forefront runners in delivering sustainable opportunities to the University. 

 

The team have been using electric vehicles for a number of years, these replaced heavy diesel vans which were used to transport goods around campus, our 2 Polaris trucks can often be seen on campus delivering parcels, pulling bins, gritting the campus or ploughing snow! 

 

The waste team has sustainability running through its function, several initiatives have been introduced over the years increasing our recycled waste streams to 8 including the recycling of coffee grounds from all our cafes which is used as a fertiliser on our grounds. 

 

The project sustainable furniture which provides options of pre-loved or refurbished furniture as opposed to purchasing new has saved the University over £423,000 over the last 3 years 188 tonnes of CO2 in 3 years, (equal to a jumbo jet flying around the world 24 times), along with contributing to the University’s sustainability strategy and Scope 3 emissions guidance. 

 

The grounds maintenance team are focused on the biodiversity of the campus and over the last few years have introduced pollinating plants, replacing hedgerows with beech to increase wildlife, the installation of bat and bird boxes, staff allotments, edible planting and much more. 

The gauge below shows the performance of the Campus Support team in relation to the % of jobs responded to in the agreed timescales. The report is for the first quarter of 2024.

The target we have set for the team to respond to jobs within the timescales agreed is 80%
