The Home Office is changing the way of how individuals will be able to view and prove their visa status in the UK. The new process should be in place from 01 January 2025.
At present when your student visa is granted, you will receive a Visa Decision Email from UKVI that will confirm if you will receive:
Most students receive 90-day vignette or a visa sticker inside their passport. This means you must travel to the UK within these 90 days period. You can then collect your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) from a UK post office. We recommend that you collect your BRP from the Huddersfield Post Office which is a 10 min walk from campus.
The process will be the same for any dependants (spouse/partner and children) applying for their visas at the same time as the student visa holder.
All BRPs now expire on 31 Dec 2024 as the Home Office are moving away from the BRP system to eVisas. However, your Visa Decision Email should have your actual visa expiry date.
See our webpage for further information on how you will transition into the eVisa system.
The online services to prove your right to work (to an employer) and your right to rent (to a landlord) are available to all.
If your visa decision email says that you will get an online immigration status or an eVisa then you should be able to generate a ‘share code’ online to view and prove your immigration status, right to work and rent in the UK. You must follow the link in your decision email and generate a share code before travelling to the UK.
Errors on your visa must be reported as soon as you notice these as otherwise some of these cannot be rectified, or the process is very lengthy and expensive.
If you have spotted an error e.g. name, date of birth or visa expiry on your BRP or eVisa, you must seek advice from an immigration adviser by attending one of our online Immigration Drop-in Sessions.
