Law School

The Law School continues to go from strength to strength and offers a range of attractive and innovative undergraduate, professional and postgraduate courses which equip students for a wide range of potential employment including the legal profession.

The Law School has an experienced and professional staff team involved in the delivery of its courses across undergraduate, postgraduate taught, postgraduate research and professional levels. Our staff bring a wide range of experience gained through both legal research and practice, with a balanced mix of professionally qualified staff, either as solicitors or barristers, and those who are research active. Many of our colleagues are involved in external activities that support the quality assurance of legal education and influence policy development nationally and internationally through their research, thereby extending the reach and reputation of the School.

The School has a unique student centred Legal Advice Clinic which is located in the Oastler Building and gives students the opportunity to research real life legal issues and give advice to members of the public.

We also operate a mentoring scheme which teams up students with a professional working in practice to provide insights into working in law.

Our Undergraduate degrees also include an optional placement year which increases experience and is a useful aid to employability on graduation.

Research

Members of Law School staff are researching in many fields including Jurisprudence concentrating on law and morality, Immigration, Child Protection including the rights of the refugee child and the systems to protect them and clinical legal education and Legal Education. We have a small but tightly focused group of research students who are integrated into the work of the school.
