SAVI: Skills and Academic Voice for International Students

SAVI classes consist of academic skills sessions for International Students which focus on strategies for success in UK HE. These sessions are designed to develop your academic skills and to help you feel confident and well prepared for your course and your assignments.

SAVI classes take place most weeks of the university teaching terms, with each week covering a different academic skills topic, for example:

  • Communication
  • Building ideas
  • Vocabulary for university
  • Choosing and using the right sources
  • Using Brightspace
  • Effective reading
  • Understanding and responding to your assignments
  • Using sources to support your ideas
  • Time management
  • Referencing your sources
  • Critical thinking
  • Paraphrasing
  • Assistive Technology
  • Academic language
  • The writing process
  • Editing and proofreading your work

The content of the Wednesday face to face sessions will be repeated in the Thursday online sessions. You choose which weeks and which sessions you want to attend. It’s all up to you and we welcome your decisions!

The SAVI sessions will run in Term 1 and be repeated in Term 2, so don’t worry if you are unable to attend everything in Term 1, the opportunity to attend will still be there for you next term.
